US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that put a four-month hold on allowing refugees into the United States and temporarily barred travelers from Syria and six other countries, saying the moves would help protect Americans from "terrorist attacks". 
The order bars all persons from certain countries from entering the United States for 90 days and suspends the US Refugee Admissions Program for 120 days until it is reinstated "only for nationals of countries for whom" members of Trump's Cabinet deem can be properly vetted. 
The countries impacted are Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia, according to a White House official, quoted by the (CNN). 
Trump ordered his secretary of state to review the US refugee program during the 120-day suspension to make sure people approved as refugees "do not pose a threat to the security and welfare of the United States". 
Trump also said his administration needed time to develop more stringent screening processes for refugees, immigrants and visitors. 
"We only want to admit those into our country who will support our country and love deeply our people," Trump said.
