The British government on Friday announced a new strategy to combat nuclear weapons proliferation, ahead of the Nuclear Security Summit due in the South Korean capita, Seoul, next week. The new strategy, approved by the National Security Council, aims at preventing terrorist organizations from acquiring expertise, nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction (WMD), the foreign ministry said in a statement. The strategy, it added, also aimed at preventing countries like Iran and North Korea from possessiong nuclear arms of sophisticated conventional weapons. Britain, said the statement, sought to boost roles of the UN, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), all relevant organizations and international treaties to achieve international security and prosperity. British deputy prime minister Nick Clegg would represent the UK to the Seoul Nuclear Security Summit, due on March 26-27.
