The United Nations announced today that it will send over 200 unarmed observers to monitor the ceasefire in Syria pursued by the UN and Arab League\'s envoy to Syria Kofi Annan to end violence. Annan\'s spokesman Ahmad Fawzi said that the UN\'s peacekeeping department was preparing for the mission without giving further details. The Syrian government has approved Annan\'s six-point plan to resolve the crisis, but has not done the same for the plan to place international observers to ensure the halt of military operations in the country.
