US Senate Confirms First 2 Cabinet Members

The Senate confirmed US President Donald Trump's first Cabinet members, formally approving his defense secretary and secretary of homeland security. 
Gen. James Mattis was confirmed as Secretary of Defense and Gen. John Kelly was confirmed as Secretary of Homeland Security in a pair of Friday evening votes. 
Mattis was approved by a vote of 98-1. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., was the lone vote against. Kelly was approved 88-11. 
Trump signed the commissions for Mattis and Kelly later Friday. Vice President Mike Pence swore in both Generals.
