Al-Azhar's Islamic Research Academy called for freezing the constitutional declaration issued by President Mohamed Morsi
and starting a national dialogue to involve all political powers without preconditions.
In a statement following an emergency meeting Thursday, the academy called for ending all protests and strikes nationwide to stem bloodshed and set the stage for holding a national dialogue.
It also condemned the clashes that erupted Wednesday outside the presidential palace, leaving hundreds dead and injured.
