Men in Blue were in dire straits

Men in Blue were in dire straits, minus Virat Kohli, in the first one-day international match against Sri Lanka being played in Dharamsala.

They were struggling at 70/8, with Suranga Lakmal ripping apart the strong batting line-up of India. At one time, they were 16/5 and then wobbled at 21/7. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was holiding fort and trying to save the blushes.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan went for a duck in the second over of the innings. After this, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (2) got out to Angelo Mathews. Dinesh Karthik (0), Manish Pandey (2) and Shreyas Iyer (9) also went back to the pavilion in a hurry. Hardik Pandya and Manish Pandey were also dismissed after this.

At 16/5, it was the lowest total in ODI by India against any team - earlier being 17/5 vs Zimbabwe in 1983, when a marathon innings from the then Indian captain Kapil Dev saved the day for India
