Up to 10 people were killed on Monday after a water truck drove into a market in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, said an eyewitness.
The accident happened at about 9:30 a.m. local time when a truck crushed into a market along Lasu-Isheri expressway in Igando area of the country's commercial hub.
At least 10 people were killed on the spot, Eniola Oba, an eyewitness told Xinhua on phone.
She said the driver of the truck was rescued by officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission to Igando general hospital after some angry mob had injured him.
She said both the remains of the dead and the injured have been conveyed to the hospital
According to initial investigation, brake failure might have caused the accident. The exact number of the injured is still unknown.
Road accidents take place frequently in Nigeria due to reckless driving, bad road conditions and over packing. More than 1,000 are killed on the road each year in the country
