Ten people have been killed after the Mi-8 helicopter crashed in Russia's Krasnoyarsk Territory, in Eastern Siberia, on Thursday, TASS News Agency quoted a spokesperson for the health ministry as saying.

The regional health ministry reported earlier that 13 people were killed in the crash.

The spokesperson said "the doctors continue fighting for the lives" of the injured people. A total of 15 people have sustained various injuries and have been sent to hospital in the town of Igarka.

The Mi-8 helicopter of the Turukhan air company was en route from Igarka to an oil production facility in Krasny Selkub. Some 22 passengers and three crew members were on board the helicopter that lost contact with air traffic control at around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The helicopter was later found lying on the ice of the Yenisei River some 2 kilometers from the airport.
