At least 12 people were killed and many injured in an explosion in downtown Bangkok on Monday night, according to local media.
The explosion happened at about 7 p.m. local time near Erawan Shrine at Ratchaprasong intersection, a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
The explosion was caused by a bomb and killed 12 people, national police spokesman Prawuth Thawornsiri was quoted by Khaosod English as saying.
There could be another bomb at the scene, Prawuth said.
A number of foreign nationals were seen injured in the blast, according to witnesses.
At least 45 vehicles were reportedly damaged by the blast.
Roads around the intersection have been closed while police and soldiers are inspecting the site of the blast.
The bomb could be hidden in a motorcycle, police reportedly said.
