Authorities in Haiti say 16 people have died in a truck accident in the country's northern region.

A coordinator for the Civil Protection Agency says the accident occurred Saturday around dawn near the coastal town of Cap-Haitien, AP reported.

Jean-Henri Petit said the truck tipped over as it tried to avoid a motorcycle. It was carrying charcoal and wood for people headed toward a nearby market.
