Greek police have detained an unidentified number of suspects regarding the murder of two young Greek motorcyclists near Kalamata in southern Greece on Wednesday, according to police sources.
The dead bodies of the two friends, aged 25 and 26, were found in a remote area on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday.
Their families had notified police that they were missing since Monday night, after telling friends that they had an appointment.
According to preliminary data from the coroner's office, the victims, a local and an islander, were shot dead. Their motorcycle has not been found yet.
The police investigation continued to trace the perpetrators and learn the motive behind the killings.
According to police sources, investigators suspected a settling of accounts rather than a politically-motivated double assassination, as local media suggested, implying that the victims were linked to the far-right.
Police have not confirmed though any connection of the victims with the party or reasons for the double murder.
Last year, two Golden Dawn members were shot dead outside the party's offices in an Athens suburb, following the murder of an anti-fascist activist by a Golden Dawn supporter.
