At least three people were killed and eight others injured after a passenger vehicle they were aboard skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Saturday.
The accident took place at Gilginder in mountainous Doda district, about 236 km south of Srinagar city, the winter capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
The vehicle was carrying members of a marriage party.
"In a tragic road accident last evening three members of a marriage party were killed and eight others were injured when a Sumo vehicle in which they were traveling rolled down into 300 feet deep gorge at Doda," said a police spokesman. "The injured were immediately rescued by police team that rushed to the spot on receiving information about accident."
According to officials, the ill-fated vehicle was on its way from Doda to Bhaderwah.
The driver lost his control over the vehicle before it fell into the gorge, according to police.
Last month, 14 people were killed and 28 others injured in a similar accident.
Deadly road accidents are common in this mountainous region, often caused by overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
