At least three people were killed when a Bangladesh express train ploughed into a crowd of street vendors and pedestrians crossing the railway tracks near a kitchen market in capital Dhaka on Thursday morning.
The accident which took place at about 8:45 a.m. local time also left several others critically injured.
A Banana trader died on the spot while two others succumbed at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said an official.
The DMCH official who did not like to be named said all the injured were whisked off to the hospital for treatment.
He said three of those injured were in critical condition.
Many ultra poor families live next to the railway tracks in Dhaka and lead life by doing income activities on railway tracks and frequently get killed in train accidents.
There are many unmanned level crossing along the Bangladesh Railway across the country, where most tracks of the railway are in a dilapidated condition, which often cause accidents.
