Three prison officers have been stabbed by an inmate at Bandyup Women's Prison in Western Australia (WA) overnight, local media reported Wednesday. The attacker, who has a history of violent behavior, stabbed the guards with a sharpened comb when they were conducting a welfare check on an inmate. One of the guards suffered head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment, and the other two were able to continue work, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported. WA Corrective Services Minister Joe Francis told Australia's Fairfax radio that the incident was serious. "Any incident that results in an assault on prison officers is serious but let's keep it in perspective: there are 5,000 people behind bars in this state and they aren't exactly pillars of society," he said. "To the credit of the prison officers involved, they both went straight back to work, I'm informed last night and got on with doing their job."
