A 5.5-magnitude earthquake in southern Iran Thursday killed at least one person, a local government official said. The Iranian Seismological Center said quake struck the Bastak region in Iran's southern Hormozgan province and was followed by numerous aftershocks, including one registering 4.5 magnitude, the government-supported Press TV reported. The earthquake killed at least one person and injured 30 others, Bastak Gov. Mohammad Moshtaqzadeh said. The quake also caused power outages and disrupted landline telephone service in the region, he said.
