Heavy downpour sparked landslide in Jombang district of East Java early Tuesday, leaving five people dead and 10 others trapped under their collapsed houses, officials said. Pile of soil slammed into 15 houses in Kopen hamlet at about two o'clock local time and crumpled five of them, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of national disaster agency, told Xinhua. Rescuers, including police, soldiers and volunteers, are searching to retrieve those being buried under the wreckage of the houses, Moch Hernanto, spokesman of national search and rescue office, told Xinhua. Indonesia has endured days of heavy rain that triggered landslide in many parts of the country, killing dozens of people.
