At least fifteen suspected militants were killed as gunship helicopters carried out targeted strikes in North Waziristan tribal region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan on Monday, said military.
A statement by media wing of Pakistan military, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that at least 15 terrorists were killed when Army Aviation Combat helicopters carried out precision strikes in the Tabai area of North Waziristan Agency. It further said that 10 explosive-laden vehicles and five militant hideouts were destroyed in the strikes.
The Pakistani military launched a comprehensive operation "Zarb e Azb" on June 15 against the local and foreign militants following a deadly militant attack on Karachi's international airport and failure of peace talks between the government and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Meanwhile, Commander of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) General John Campbell called on Pakistani Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif on Monday at General Headquarters (GHQ), said ISPR. This is his first visit to the GHQ after assumption of command of the ISAF.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest were discussed that included progress of ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the latest situation in Afghanistan and coordination along Pak-Afghan Border, ISPR added.
