Los Angeles - XINHUA
At least two people were killed and three others injured in a gunfire at Terminal 3 of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), California, Friday morning. A suspect and a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent were said to have been killed in the incident which erupted at a check point of the terminal at around 9:30 a.m. local time ( 1630 GMT). The suspect, reportedly armed with a rifle, was taken into custody after being shot and later died, local media quoted the police source as saying. The conditions of other wounded were not immediately known. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck arrived at the airport around 10:30 a.m. local time ( 1730 GMT). Dozens of police vehicles and ambulances were at the scene. One witness said that people began scrambling to evacuate the terminal after they heard multiple gun shots. Another witness recalled that a white young man with a riffle opened fire at the check point targeting TSA employees. Searching in the terminal is still going on. Major roads leading to the LAX were closed to traffic. LAX is the third largest airport in the U.S. and the Terminal 3 serves the operations for airlines including Allegiant Air, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit and Virgin America. A ground stop was issued for the airport, meaning planes around the country bound for LAX were being held on the ground.
