At least 9 people were killed and 40 others injured in a highway collision near Dresden in eastern Germany early Saturday, local media reported.
The accident happened at about 2 a.m. (0000 GMT) on a highway near Dresden, a city near the border with the Czech Republic. A Polish coach rear-ended another bus from Ukraine, slammed into a van in the opposite lane and plunged down the embankment, the local MDR radio reported.
Seven people in the van and two bus passengers were killed. Some 40 others were injured, it said, citing witnesses.
Some 150 rescuers were working at the scene. It was not clear whether there were more victims trapped in the wreckage. Dresden fire brigade chief Andreas Ruempel said it was the worst accident in his 36-year career.
