Islamabad - KUNA
At least five people were killed as a bomb ripped through the funeral ceremony for an Afghan Local Police (ALP) commander in eastern Laghman province of Afghanistan on Thursday, said officials.
Deputy Director of Laghman Civil Hospital, Dr. Dayem, confirmed receiving five dead bodies and thirty wounded people from the bombing site.
The Laghman governorآ’s spokesman, Sarhadi Zwak, told the media that at least 22 people were wounded in the bombing that took place in Pahlawan Baba area of the provincial capital. He confirmed that the provincial crime branch chief, Col. Khalilur Rahman Niazi, was among the dead. The security forces cordoned off the area and injured were immediately shifted to the nearby Laghman Civil hospital. The nature of the blast was not yet ascertained.
The attack came at a time when Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks following the withdrawal of NATO/ISAF forces from Afghanistan, handing over the security control of the country to Afghan national forces.
