At least seven people were killed and eleven others were injured on Thursday due to an explosion in a passenger coach in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province of Pakistan, said officials.
According to police, the explosion occurred in a passenger coach in Bazid Khel area on Kohat Road in Peshawar. Peshawar's Lady Reading Hospital's (LRH) media spokesperson Jamil Shah confirmed that seven people were killed and eleven others were injured in the explosion.
The coach was heading towards Upper Kurram Agency tribal region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan from Peshawar.
A senior bomb disposal official, AIG Shafqat Malik said that five kilograms of explosive was used in the blast. The casualties were immediately shifted to the nearby hospital where some of the injured were said to be in critical condition.
The blast came at a time when a comprehensive military operation is underway in North Waziristan tribal region since June 15, against the foreign and local militants. The provincial capital, Peshawar has seen scores of attacks on civilians as well as law enforcement personnel in the past.
