Chief of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) organization, Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a US drone strike in northern Pakistan tribal area bordering Afghanistan on Friday, local media reported. The reports said the TTP Chief was leaving from a meeting at a mosque in Dande Darpakhel area of North Waziristan tribal area when the drone targeted his vehicle. The government of Pakistan has not yet confirmed the death of the TTP leader. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali, in a press statement, said that he could not confirm reports of Mehsud's death. Western media reports said five militants including key militant commanders Abdullah Bahar Mehsud and Tariq Mehsud were also killed in the drone strike. Meanwhile, the Government of Pakistan strongly condemns the US drone strike that took place in North Waziristan this evening. A press release by the Foreign Office said that these strikes were violating Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and must end.
