At least 11 Afghan security personnel and 40 militants were killed in fighting in eastern Afghanistan, an official said Monday, according to dpa.
Taliban fighters attacked seven security checkpoints in Azra district
of Logar province Sunday night, said Abdul Wali, head of the
provincial council.
Eight policemen and three army soldiers were killed, he said.
"Approximately 800 Taliban attacked the district but were defeated by
Afghan security forces after 2 hours," Wali said, adding that 40
Taliban were killed in a counter-offensive.
