The death toll of a temple stampede in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh has climbed from 89 to 115, police said Monday. \"We have received reports of 115 deaths in the stampede so far,\" police said, expecting the toll to rise further. The police said the figures were compiled after scores of people who had been carrying their deceased loved ones back home were told to present them to authorities for an autopsy. The families were also told by the authorities that they would be recieving compensation for the move. The stampede at a temple in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh was reported on Sunday evening when panic spread on a bridge carrying around 25,000 pilgrims, who had feared the bridge\'s collapse on their way to the temple. According to initial reports, police confirmed 89 deaths and 100 others sustaining critical injuries. Another 450,000 pilgrims had been present at the nearby temple when the incident happened. The local administration has called for a judicial probe to look into the causes of the accident.
