A total of 364 people died and 3,070 more were injured on Thailand's roads over the five-day Songkran holiday period, according to official statistics released Friday.

The casualty toll exceeded last year's by 42 deaths, according to the Road Safety Department.

Officials at the department blamed drunk driving and speeding for causing more than half of the accidents during the holiday that ran until Wednesday, dpa reported.
