Road accident

At least four people died and 32 others injured in a grisly road accident on Thursday in the coastal town of Voi in Taita Taveta County after a passenger bus veering off the road, said local police.
Taita Taveta County's Police Commander Richard Bitonga said the bus was heading to Mombasa from Voi when the driver lost control and veered off the road.
"Initial investigations have found out that the bus was not overtaking nor did it collide with any other vehicle. The driver lost control of the vehicle," said Bitonga.
He said 24 of the injured were treated for minor injuries and were released from the hospital while eight others are still admitted at the hospital following the accident which took place early on Thursday.
The local police commander said three women and a child died on the spot during the accident, adding that the ill-fated bus belonging to Classic Sacco was carrying 40 passengers when the accident occurred.
"We have launched investigations to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. I wish to also urge our motorists to observe traffic rules and regulations during this time," Bitonga said.
Road accidents continue to occur despite stringiest traffic rules which were introduced by the government to help curb road carnage.
According to the transport ministry, accidents by passenger vehicles have dropped by 50 percent since new safety laws were put in place in 2013.
