South Korean troops engaged in a fierce gun battle Sunday with a runaway soldier who had shot and killed five members of his unit, reports said.
At least one officer has been shot and wounded in the ongoing firefight near an elementary school in the eastern county of Goseong, a few miles south of the border with North Korea, according to Yonhap news agency and local reports.
The military would not immediately confirm the reports.
