The death toll in the sinking last week of a South Korean ferry had climbed to more than 120 by Tuesday evening, as hopes of finding survivors in air pockets within the ship remained unrealized, dpa reported.
Around 180 of the 476 people on board the ferry are listed as missing. The majority of the passengers were teenagers on a school outing. Some 250 of the missing and confirmed dead are among their number.
Divers are searching through the ship's cabins and a cafeteria where it is presumed that most of the bodies are trapped, the Yonhap news agency said. An underwater robot is also involved in the search.
Survivors have not yet been detected. Search crews are using nets to surround the submerged ship to prevent bodies from being carried away by currents.
