Afghanistan’s Helmand

 The Taliban militants have shot dead at least 12 de-miners in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan, Khaama Press reported on Saturday.
According to local government officials, the incident took place on Saturday noon in Washer district.
A security official speaking on the condition of anonymity said a group of Taliban militants opened fire on de-miners in Shorab area.
The official further added that 12 de-miners were also wounded following the attack.
The provincial police spokesman, Farid Ahmad, confirmed the incident but did not disclose further information regarding the exact number of casualties.
The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.
Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating and often carry out insurgency activities.
