A high-speed train (TGV) collided with a regional express train (TER) Thursday evening in southwestern France, leaving at least 17 injured and three in serious condition, according to French media reports.
The two trains collided in Pyrenees-Atlantiques.
"On 5:38 p.m. (1538 GMT), a TER between Pau and Dax carrying 60 passengers crashed into the rear of a TGV between Paris and Tarbes carrying 178 passengers," said a spokesman from the prefecture, quoted by AFP.
At least 17 people were injured in the accident, including three in critical condition, according to BFMTV channel.
The transportation of trains between Pau and Bayonne were interrupted.
"Reeve has activated the Crisis Plan," said spokesman of the prefecture.
Moreover, according to the daily newspaper La Republique des Pyrenees, a medical post was set up in a school in the commune.
