The Nikkei stock index declined 0.02 percent on Friday morning as investors locked in gains after recent rally.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged down 2.28 points, or 0. 02 percent, from Thursday to 15,077.09.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 1.85 points, or 0.15 percent, to 1,234. 60.
Major decliners included communication, rubber products as well as retail issues.
