Nikkei ended slightly higher Thursday afternoon, ending a four-day losing streak on bargain- hunting. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 0.43 point from Wednesday at 14,300.12. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 0.95 point, or 0.08 percent, to 1,149. 49. Decliners were led by utility, insurance and automaker shares, while nonferrous metal, wholesale and textile shares gained ground. The turnover was 1,832.1 billion yen (17.97 billion U.S. dollars).
