Tokyo stocks rose 0.51 percent higher in the morning session of Wednesday, with the Nikkei stocks index hitting a five-month high bolstered by overnight gains on Wall Street.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 78.40 points, from Tuesday to 15,404.60, after hitting 15,444.63, its best intraday level since Jan. 24.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 6.68 points, or 0.52 percent, at 1,282. 76.
Major gainers included rubber products, communications and nonferrous metal shares.
