Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as a slew of comments from Federal Reserve officials eased fears about the scaling back of U.S. quantitative easing measures.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 178.36 points, or 1.35 percent, from Thursday at 13,391.91.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 18.72 points, or 1.70 percent, at 1, 117.55.
