Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher on Thursday morning stimulated by overnight gains on Wall Street and the yen's depreciation against the U.S. dollar.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 71.06 points, or 0.47 percent, from Wednesday to 15,139.02.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 4.48 points, or 0.36 percent, to 1,238. 43.
