Tokyo stocks opened lower Thursday weighed down by the yen's advance, as well as a poor overnight performance in the U.S. market.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 120.64 points, or 0.80 percent, from Wednesday to 14,948.84.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 7.28 points, or 0.59 percent, at 1, 231.79.
