Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher on Thursday morning after the Dow's rise to a record high overnight following the Federal Reserve's decision to maintain an accommodative monetary policy. At 9:15 am, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 258.04 points, or 1.66 percent, from Wednesday to 15,845.84, hitting its highest intraday level in seven months. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 14.79 points, or 1.18 percent, to 1, 265.28.
