Tokyo stocks ended almost flat in Monday's morning session as investors refrained from active trading amid a lack of fresh trading cues after the market's five- day winning streak last week.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 11.22 points, or 0.07 percent, from Friday to 15,329.56.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange climbed 0.73 point, or 0.06 percent, at 1,271. 41.
Major gainers included marine transport and utility shares, while nonferrous metal and real estate ones moved lower.
