Tokyo stocks inched up on Wednesday, with the Nikkei index ending 1.09 percent higher following overnight gains on Wall Street. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 157.50 points, from Tuesday at 14,546.27. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 11.31 points, or 0.97 percent, higher at 1,173.81. Gainers included rubber, nonferrous metal and air transportation shares. The turnover was 1543.6 billion yen (about 15.05 billion U.S. dollars).
