Tokyo stocks ended 1.95 percent higher on Tuesday, bolstered by the Dow overnight rise to a record high and the yen's depreciation against the U.S. dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 275.92 points, at 14, 425.44.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 20.44 points, or 1.77 percent, higher at 1,178.35.
Gainers were led by real estate, brokerage, nonferrous metal and automaker issues.
The turnover was 1799.0 billion yen (about 17.60 billion U.S. dollars).
