Tokyo stocks opened almost flat on Monday morning after last week's five-day winning streak.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 32.35 points, or 0.21 percent, from Friday to 15,350.69.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange climbed 1.03 points, or 0.08 percent, at 1, 271.71.
Major gainers included mining and marine transport shares, while nonferrous metal as well as pulp and paper issues lost ground.
