Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower on Thursday morning as investors locked in gains after the Nikkei's five-day winning streak.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 52.69 points, or 0.36 percent, from Wednesday to 14,618.26.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 2.11 points, or 0.18 percent, to 1,196. 06.
