Tokyo stocks opened lower early Monday morning as investor sentiment was undermined by continued losses on Wall Street.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 72.39 points, or 0.47 percent, from Friday to 15,450.72.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 7.34 points, or 0.57 percent, to 1,273. 96.
Major decliners included consumer finance, marine transport and bank shares.
