Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher on Monday morning bolstered by a strong rally of U.S. shares.
At 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 243.20 points, or 1.65 percent, from Friday to 15,021.57.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange surged 14.41 points, or 1.17 percent, to 1, 242.67.
