The Airports of Thailand released its August data for six airports under its management showing positive performances in all sectors. Total aircraft movements for all airports improved 8.40% from 38,378 to 41,603. Passenger traffic was up 12.94% from 5,756,842 to 6,501,842. Bangkok’s prime gateway, Suvarnabhumi Airport, registered growth in all sectors in August. International aircraft movements were up by 5.76% from 18,430 to 19,492 movements, while domestic sector reported a double digits growth of 14.59%, up from 6,263 to 7,177 movements. International passengers also improved by 9.21%, up from 3,219,749 to 3,516,155 as well as the domestic sector that registered a double digit growth of 19.02%, up from 919,132 to 1,093,966 passengers. Phuket International Airport also reported increases in all sectors with international aircraft movements up by 13.43% from 2,368 to 2,686. The domestic sector increased by 7.17%, up from 2,247 to 2,408 movements in August. Passenger traffic grew for both international and domestic by 19.46% from 357,680 to 427,300 (international) and by 14.47% from 357,461 to 409,176 (domestic). Chiang Mai International Airport registered improvement in all sectors in August. International aircraft movements increased 26.11%, from 337 to 425 movements. Domestic sector increased 4.86% from 2,224 to 2,332 movements. Passenger traffic registered increases in all sectors. International passengers shot up 50.06%, from 30,192 to 45,307, while domestic grew 11.44% from 286,368 to 319,120. Bangkok’s domestic airport, Don Mueang International Airport saw a slight improvement in aircraft movements of 5.24%, up from 4,711 to 4,95. Passenger traffic improved 12.94%, up from 358,154 to 404,500. Improvements should continue for Don Mueang, which will resume international services for budget airlines. AirAsia will move all of its services there 1 October and this will significantly increase business for the airport. Hat Yai International Airport reported gains in both aircraft movements and passenger traffic by 1.88% from 1,013 to 1,032 and by 14.44% from 142,424 to 162,991 respectively. Chiang Rai International Airport caters for just one international service, a twice weekly from Kunming in China, registered double digit growth in aircraft movements and passenger traffic, up by 31.75% from 378 to 498 movements and up by 29.25% from 60,363 to 78,018.
