Catalonia\'s president Artur Mas Tuesday called for the Spanish region to gain \"self-determination\" as he announced a snap election in a drive for greater independence. \"The time has come to exercise the right to self-determination\" for the rich but heavily indebted northeastern region, said Mas. \"The parliament that emerges (from November\'s election) will have a historic responsibility.\"
