The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is willing to provide all technical assistance to Tunisia in this period of transition, Director of the Economic Development and Globalisation Department at the ESCWA Abdullah Al Dardari said Tuesday. "The ESCWA is ready to back up Tunisia's efforts and provide necessary technical assistance to help the country achieve its development objectives in the economic and social fields as part of a coherent programme of bilateral co-operation," said Mr. Al Dardari during his meeting, Tuesday, with Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem. The Tunisian FM reviewed the deep changes made by the Government to help improve the business climate and attract foreign investors to Tunisia. He stressed, in this context, the importance of foreign investment in achieving economic development and creating jobs, particularly in inland areas. The meeting examined the opportunities for co-operation between Tunisia and ESCWA, particularly in implementing strategies to encourage foreign investment in inland regions. It also reviewed ways to develop Tunisia's capacities in policy making and economic and social development and draw on co-operation projects carried out by the Commission in the Arab world Tunisia had joined the ESCWA last July.
