Iran imported over 41,000 tons of tea, valued at 200 million U.S. dollars, in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (from March 20, 2012 to Dec. 20, 2012), semi-official Mehr news agency reported Wednesday. Sri Lanka ranked first by exporting about 104 million dollars worth of tea to Iran, followed by India and the United Arab Emirates with 46 million dollars and 35 million dollars, respectively. According to Mehr, Iran is planning to include Indian tea in the top category of its import items. Currently, Iran imports 11, 000 tons of tea from India annually, said the report.
