Poverty in Italy is concentrated in the less well-off southern regions of the country, Istat said on Tuesday in its annual report on the state of the nation.
The national statistics agency said 23% of households in the south were in a state of relative poverty, which means their expenditure is very low in relation to the national average, compared to 4.9% in the north.
Istat added that 68.2% of Italy\'s \'relatively poor\' people and 67% of its poor families lived in the south. The figures refer to 2010, it said.
