Abu Dhabi - WAM
The Zakat Fund on Monday unveiled an automatic teller machine (ATM) in the city of Al Ain as part of its pioneering endeavour to employ the most advanced technology in the collection of Zakat and its distribution.
Zakat is an obligatory due of at least 2.5 per cent on the wealth of each Muslim individual. The ATM was commissioned at a simple ceremony attended by officials in Al Ain.
Abdullah bin Aqeeda Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of Zakat Fund, said that the fund has now installed a total of 16 machines in various parts of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to help people deposit their Zakat dues either by cheque or in cash.
